September 2001-Present, Research Associate IV, Department of Environmental Sciences, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA
Researching state and local programs for wildfire mitigation in Wildland-Urban Interface areas. Key elements of these programs are summarized and posted on the USDA Forest Service website, www.wildfireprograms.usda.gov. The website serves as a national clearinghouse of information on wildfire mitigation programs using vegetation management techniques on private land. The website is still being built, and now contains descriptions of 200 programs in 32 states. Working with Dr. Margaret Reams, political scientist, and Terry Haines, a forester, we are researching issues relating to the effectiveness of mitigation techniques and publishing the results.
1990-1991, Planning Consultant, Urban Systems Inc., New Orleans, LA.
Represented New Orleans International Airport in the purchase of homes and
businesses located in the Noise Zone surrounding the airport.
1985-1988, Adult Services Coordinator, Jewish Community Center, New Orleans, LA
Administered the Adult Education Program including publicity, marketing, scheduling, supervision of teachers, and budgeting. Coordinated and publicized large special events for the agency and community.
1980- 1982, Project Director, Resource Consultants, New Orleans, LA
Wrote technical documents for an environmental consulting firm, including: an illustrated solar energy manual for Louisiana, a water quality study of the safety of underground injection of wastes in Louisiana, and several environmental impact assessments.
1978-1979, Acting Planning Director, City of Lafayette, LA
Administered the Zoning Ordinance and Subdivision Regulations in a small city in Louisiana during a period of high growth. Advised the City Council and City Planning Commission on issues relating to planning.
